If you’re like most men, we don’t like to spend more then 10 minutes or so in the shower. A quick body wash, hair rinse and dash, and we’re off to what awaits us in the bedroom. For many of us, washing our hair is the necessary addition to staying clean so our time gets compromised. Over the last couple years, we’ve been introduced to newest hair products: 2-In-1 Shampoo / Conditioner. At first glance, it looks fantastic. I mean, who wouldn’t want to shorten their hair wash by a simple squeeze of a bottle cap?
The truth of the matter is that 2-in-1 is translated as: 2 ways to damage your way in 1 shot. Shampoo does one simple job which is to penetrate your hair cuticle with a chemical detergent that cleanse your hair of dirt or dandruff. Unfortunately, it also strips your hair of its natural oils. Based on your hair texture, some shampoos may contain a more concentrated or harsh detergent thus leaving your scalp feeling like the Arizona desert. Conditioners are meant to replenish your hair with moisture giving a shiner, healthy look.
Manger Daniel Davies describes the essential problem with 2-In-1 product
The problem with 2-in-1 is that “a single product cannot open and close the cuticle at the same time,” Davies said. The hair gets cleaned, but the “conditioner” part of the product only coats the hair with silicone, which doesn’t “close” the hair’s cuticles. The result is an extremely frizzy head of hair that is hard to manage, and will need to be washed more often.
It’s time to think twice the next time you grab & go on your market runs to CVS, Walgreens etc. Your best solution is to continue to purchase shampoo & conditioner separately allowing both products to effectively do their job.
Important Note: Keep your shampoo / conditioner brands consistent. If you purchase Nivea shampoo, be sure to also purchase the Nivea conditioner.
