Groom Guy Featured in The New York Times: A Barbershop Experience in Washington DC [VIDEO]

Let’s be real—this was one of those surprises we didn’t see coming.

Back in February, the team at Destination DC reached out in search of unique, local businesses that genuinely embody the essence of Washington DC. Their mission? To spotlight the real D.C. and they met us inside Yours Truly DC.

Thanks to a mix of divine timing and our hard-earned reputation, they came across Groom Guy, our modern barbershop based at Yours Truly DC. What began as a casual email exchange quickly turned into something bigger than we expected. Just a few weeks later, our team found themselves at the center of a project that would soon be featured in The New York Times.

On the day of the shoot, one of our talented stylists was mic’d up for an impromptu interview with the Destination DC hosts. What started as a quick conversation about grooming tips naturally evolved into a full discussion about life in D.C.—where to eat, what neighborhoods to explore, how to blend day-to-night style, and the hidden gems only locals know about.

When the NYT crew asked, “Where should we go next?”—we had answers.

And not just touristy suggestions, either. We’re talking the best rooftops, the go-to late-night jerk chicken joints, hidden speakeasies, art galleries off the beaten path, and the must-visit coffee spots you won’t find on the average travel blog.

The Groom Guy brand and shop ambiance are visible in the background, including minimalist shelving, a framed barber poster, and a wall clock. The bold white logos of Destination DC and The New York Times are centered over the image, highlighting the collaboration.

Being featured by The New York Times and Destination DC was more than a media moment it was a recognition of the everyday magic that happens when community and culture come together.

We’re proud of our team, our roots, and our city.

So, if you’re visiting or even if you’re a long-time resident, stop by Groom Guy at Yours Truly DC. Let us hook you up with a fresh cut—and maybe a few D.C. secrets while we’re at it.

Because when it comes down to it, the best tour guide in town just might be Groom Guy.
